As pets get older, they begin to have subtle problems that aren’t obvious to you or us. The only way to assess these is to perform specific tests to evaluate organ function. We recommend that all of our geriatric patients that are seven years of age or older take advantage of one of our geriatric programs. These programs include a bi-yearly thorough physical exam and laboratory diagnostics as recommended by your pet’s veterinarian, which may include a complete blood count, blood chemistry profile, urinalysis and thyroid test.
As in all health evaluations, early detection is the key as it allows for more and better treatment options.
