Acute pain is a sudden and often sharp pain that is caused by a specific underlying condition. It may be the result of injury, surgery, or trauma. This pain usually resolves itself relatively quickly, and it is best treated with medications that your veterinarian prescribed for your pet. This pain can be intense for your animal, and oftentimes the best way to help them is with the proper pain medications. Once the condition that caused the pain heals or goes away, like the injury or trauma, the acute pain should go away as well.
Chronic pain is caused by a long-term illness or disease, such as arthritis or diabetes. Since these diseases are largely incurable, your pet is likely to suffer from this chronic pain for the rest of their life. We recommend different treatments to help relieve the pain that your pet is experiencing, including laser therapy, medication, and other treatments. The veterinarians at Coldwater Animal Hospital will examine your pet’s individual needs and work to find the best pain solution for them.
